Somatic Therapy for People Who Do Too Much

  • You got such good feedback for being this way that it’s scary to be anything else.

  • The good friend. The good daughter. The good parent/partner/sister/colleague/fill-in-the-blank. You know exactly what others want from you, and you don’t know how to not give it to them.

  • The one no one has to worry about. The dependable one. The caretaking one. The one who gets things done.

  • There is so much to do, all the time. You’re on overdrive, overfunctioning, keeping it all together. Resting feels impossible, or uncomfortable, or gives rise to guilt or anxiety.

  • Suddenly so much feels new again—what this will mean for you, what to do next, even who you are right now.

You have the insight. You know yourself. But something deeper hasn’t shifted yet.

Maybe you’ve done therapy before or maybe just your own self-work, but you have a pretty good handle on your narrative and why you are the way you are. You wonder what comes next.

Hi. I’m Emily.

Somatic and IFS Therapist in Brooklyn, NY

I help people who have it all together to release old patterns of perfectionism, people-pleasing, and control to learn how to rest, feel, say no, and (re)connect with their bodies.

In therapy, we’ll work together to help you:

✔ Feel genuinely calm and sturdy on the inside

✔ Find ease in slowing down and safety in stillness

✔ Protect your own time and energy while still being there for others

✔ Feel loved and valued for who you are, not what you do

✔ Actually believe no is a complete sentence

✔ Enter a new life phase feeling connected to yourself, grounded in your body, and able to respond rather than react

I offer somatic therapy (body-based) and IFS therapy to adults in person in Fort Greene, Brooklyn and online throughout New York State who are tired of managing everything on the surface and still feeling anxious, disconnected, or stuck underneath.

My approach blends mindfulness-centered somatic therapy with parts work to help you understand yourself more deeply and create meaningful, lasting change. Together, we’ll explore how your mind and body have learned to adapt, gently shifting patterns that no longer serve you while building more steadiness, self-trust, and ease.

More Than Just Talking

Sometimes, talking out a problem or continuing to gain insight can be what feels most helpful—and we can also go beyond conversation.

Location

My office is located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, next to beautiful Fort Greene Park. For those who know the neighborhood, it’s diagonally across from Walter’s.

Sometimes online therapy is more convenient. I also offer virtual therapy sessions to folks located anywhere in New York State.

Therapy Services

THERAPY FOR ANXIETY

Our work will help you find relief from stress, overwhelm, and the constant pull to do too much. Anxiety often lives in the body as well as the mind. Along with learning tools for regulating the nervous system, we’ll also deepen your understanding of what your body and the anxious parts of you are telling you, so we can work with the root of your anxiety to make for lasting change.

THERAPY FOR LIFE TRANSITIONS

Sometimes a major transition involves mourning the loss of who you were while trying to figure out who you are now. Life changes can be overwhelming and often reactivate old patterns you thought were behind you. Therapy can help you stay grounded, connected to yourself, and move through change with clarity and confidence, even amidst uncertainty.

IFS THERAPY

You may find that certain parts of you are keeping you stuck or getting in the way of being who you want to be. In IFS therapy, we can work with these parts to better understand the purpose they serve, to update them, and to heal the more vulnerable parts underneath that they may be protecting.

SOMATIC THERAPY

The body can be a rich source of information that’s not otherwise available to us. Along with learning tools for nervous system regulation, we will focus on tuning into bodily sensations and exploring what unfolds to gain deeper insight and transform long-standing patterns.

I’m interested. Now what?

→ Reach out to me to book a free consultation call. We’ll find a time to jump on the phone for 15-20 minutes. You don’t have to have the right words to say or know where to start. We’ll get to know each other, talk about what led you to reach out, and what therapy with me looks like. We’ll go over logistics, and I’ll answer any questions you may have.

→ If it feels like a good fit, we’ll schedule a first session, whether for in-person or virtual therapy. The first session can include some basic information-gathering, but we’ll also jump right in to start getting you the support you came here for in the first place.

→ We’ll generally meet weekly, and as we go we’ll continue to assess together the fit, your needs and goals, and what is and isn’t working for you in our process.
